Roatan

While I've been to many of the Caribbean Islands, Roatan has become my favorite stretching 37 miles in length and 5 in width. This is the largest of the Honduras Bay Islands and has more to offer than in the way of activities than any other island. It's not only beautiful and enchanting, the people are some of the friendliest I've ever encountered.

Located near the Mesoamerican Barrier which hugs the north shore, it is the second largest reef next to Australia. The snorkeling and scuba are superb! You'll find many excellent dive operators with hotels accommodations close to shore. The island is not near as " touristy " as the others and offers so much, you'll be hard pressed to do everything in a week's time.

As always, I prefer a house over a hotel, but this time I chose both. The beaches on the West End are crystal clear and there is some really fun snorkeling with family friendly beaches right at your door step. The , Infinity Bay Beach Resort  is made up of condos and is almost new. These are 5 star accommodations , the pool is huge and there is a restaurant bar with out door tables right on this spectacular beach. I get excited just writing about it. The bartenders are awesome and even took some of my family members to a Reggae concert.

The house I chose was  www.fuegodelrmar.com

Not only is the house fairly priced, you won't believe what comes with it. There's a large fishing boat you can rent (with captain) for the day that sits at the end of your dock.  Last year they built a spa that stands over a creek. They give you a menu of what they offer. I chose a massage and have to say, not only was it less than $40 for the hour, it was by far the best massage I'd ever had.

You can decide to eat at some great restaurants a short drive away or you can hire a lady who comes and cooks for you. The house is spread out and looks like a compound in a jungle setting, infinity pool with views to die for and an outdoor , rock shower,  with an ocean view.

I rented scooters and ATV's from Coxen Hole , I believe it was Brown rentals and kept them for the week. Each day we rode them on the main streets all over the island instead of using the rental car. The views are amazing. There's a zoo where the monkeys and huge Macaws interact with you, a zip line that is high fast and long and a town called West End that's as charming, if not more, than Key West.

Roatan is a hidden treasure that few people know of. To investigate further, visit Roatan tourism. You'll be impressed I guarantee it!
